Awesome mother/daughter team, Nicole and Olivia Allen, started volunteering at Animal House in July 2017. Volunteering was already an important part of their lives. They have made several trips to Costa Rica and Belize to volunteer, and Olivia has raised money for several charities, including the Jaguar Rescue Center, the Red Cross, and The Belize Zoo, which rescues injured and orphaned wildlife. Dogs are Olivias favorite animals, though, and helping at Animal House was a great way to focus their philanthropy on their own community.
Nicole and Olivia enrich the lives of our shelter dogs by walking them and giving them love and attention. They also take fantastic photos and videos of the dogs and their interactions with them, which are posted on Animal Houses Facebook page and other social media. Their pictures and videos have helped specific dogs get adopted quickly, and they have inspired others to volunteer!
Olivia and Nicole find joy in caring for the dogs while they await their forever homes. Olivia loves seeing how happy the dogs are when they get to go out for a walk. Nicole is always thrilled to see them adopted. They bring me more joy than I bring them, says Nicole.
Nicole is a teacher at Bauder Elementary and Front Range Community College, plus she has her own photography business, Photography by Nicole Allen. She points out that Sophie, the therapy dog at Bauder, was adopted from Animal House! Olivia is in 8th grade at Blevins Middle School. When shes not in school or volunteering, Olivia is very involved in musical theatre, both at school and at the Midtown Arts Center. She also has a first-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Their family dog is Mocha, an 8-month-old Chocolate Lab. Mocha enjoys watching television, and her favorite show is Planet Earth.
Olivia and Nicole are already planning new ways to help the dogs at Animal House, including holding a benefit garage sale and supply drive this summer. Nicole and Olivia, THANK YOU for all the love you give the dogs and for being such stellar representatives of Animal House and the volunteer program! As Olivia says, Life is not worth living without dogs!
