Lance started volunteering at Animal House in January 2015. He had moved from Minnesota to Colorado for a new job and volunteering was a good way to meet local people. Lance works as an electrical engineer for a company that monitors the power grid across the western United States, and his rotating schedule allows him to devote time to helping Animal House.
Lance started out as a dog walker, but now he volunteers mostly with events and shelter maintenance. Lance is very unassuming about his contributions, but he is the volunteer who is always there when we need him most. His help has been instrumental during Animal Houses transition to the new shelter. Some of the projects he has accomplished include moving equipment from the old shelter, cutting up fallen trees, taking down fencing, whacking weeds, mowing, and cleaning the old shelter. As Lance puts it, he specializes in random things that a guy with a truck can do. It would be hard to get these projects done without Lance!
In addition, Lance has volunteered for most all our annual fundraising events including Choice City Comedy Night, Dirty Dog Wash, Fall Harvest Brewfest, and he handled the setup and takedown of the water station at this year’s Phantom 4 Miler (in addition to running it.) Lances support goes beyond volunteering. He is a Kennel Sponsor of an adoption kennel at our new shelter.
In his free time, Lance likes to hike with his Australian Shepherd, Elliot, who was adopted from Animal House. Lance met Elliot when he was featured as an adoptable dog at Animal Houses Comedy Night. At the time, Lance wasnt specifically looking to adopt a dog. But then he watched Elliot go home with his foster mom at the end of the evening. Elliot looked out the car window at Lance, and that was it Lance says!
Lance, thank you for always being there to lend a helping handand truck! You are amazing, and we feel very lucky to have you in the Animal House family!
